Important News from Adriana's Caravan

Dear customers and friends,

After 20 years in a remarkable business, I have decided that it's time for a change. I will close Adriana's Caravan in the spring or summer of this year.

It is difficult to compress 20 years of experiences, achievements, and emotions into one short letter. But I can start by saying that some of my most treasured memories are about events from the "retail years."

My daughter's birthday at the store, the rent party, the hilarious hot sauce tastings, Fairway Market's physically imposing security force protecting us from a psychotic vendor, being chosen to be at Grand Central Terminal in New York, the highest rating in Zagat, the new friends, my motley but loving and loyal staff, the mountains of press. This list could go on for pages.

And of course, like any soap opera, bad things happened, too: death threats, robbery, cancer, love affairs ending, floods, and court dates were just some of the crises. Fortunately, we survived them all.

After all of these years, it is time to move on. This has not been an easy decision. I love that my stores have always become refuges: friendly, social places where people could feel comfortable together. We talked about food, sure—but there were many other things we learned from each other.

The good news: everything is on sale. Buy enough to last you—the spices and condiments will keep for over a year. And buy now; quantities are extremely limited.

The sale begins March 1, with 25% off everything.

Please note that we are not able to show your discount in your online shopping cart, and shipping charges will be based on the non-discounted total. When the order is ready to be shipped, we will send you an invoice reflecting your savings.

If you're curious about my next career, I am in graduate school now, getting a master's degree in International Affairs at The New School in New York. I am very old to be doing this, but I absolutely recommend it to all of you road scholars out there. In the summer I will go to Uganda to do research, work on a video documentary, and teach media.

I would like to hear from you, so if you have ideas about food, Uganda, or life in general, please email us at adricara@aol.com, or call me at
917-237-1830. I'll be in and out, but my friend and office manager, Veronica, will be here to answer your questions.

So until our paths cross again, be well, call to say goodbye, I'll miss you.
